About Us

The club was formed in 1946, just after the end of World War II. To secure fishing on the River Loughor, a 10-year rental agreement was entered into in 1952. The annual rental was just £17.25. In 1965, the club made its first outright purchase of fishing rights at Erw-Fach, followed by Llywn-Ifan-Ddu (1965), Daniel Evans (1968), Dolbren (1983), Ynys Llety (1986), Sychnant (1988), Tal-y-Fan-Fawr (2000), and Tal-y-Cynllwyn (2003). When our current President joined the club, the annual subscription for local members was just 37.5p (in decimal currency), and members of the Committee included Alan Rees, Frank Smith, Ronnie Williams, Harry Darbyshire, Tom Francis, Will Phillips and Albert Rogers. Competitions were held on the River Loughor, with the ‘weigh-in’ being outside Ynys House, much to the delight of the owner. Away competitions were held on various rivers, including the River Teifi at Cenarth and Newcastle Emlyn, the River Wye at Newbridge-on-wye, and the River Teifi at Lampeter (our own club water). A coach was hired from Aeron Jenkins (Fountain Garage, Pontarddulais), with pick ups at Glynhir Square, Dantwyn Square, King Hotel, Farmers Arms, Dulais Square and anywhere else where a fishing rod and waders were spotted! Fishing methods were mainly fly, ledgered and running worm and spinning with Devon and Irish Minnows, Mepps, Flying C’s and Rapalas.
