Brief description of fishery:
The Big Lake is a 14 acre gravel pit in the shape of an L, consisting of several gravel bars and gravel shelves. Depths in this lake range from 2-11 foot, from the shelves down to various holes found around the lake. Apart from large amounts of open water, there is one island and several secluded bays with overhanging bushes, reed beds and submerged weed. There are also vast beds of mares tail weed which our larger fish seem to congregate within. The River Cray flows in at the south end at a point we call Chappell’s Cut this part of the lake is always worth a fish. ,this lake houses our bigger specimen fish all different characters from dark chestnut commons,to dark plated mirrors,to stunning zip liners!!. The Big Lake holds fish as follows:- Bream to 12lb, Tench to 9lb, Carp to 41lb, Roach to 2.5lb, Perch to 4.5lb and Pike to 28lb, we also believe that there are several fish that have never been banked. It may also be possible to hook the occasional Chub.
