New Platt Fisheries Rules
These rules are designed to protect your interests, those of your fellow members and the welfare and integrity of the Fishery.
Please pay attention to all Notices and Rules posted in the lodge which are periodically updated.
Fishing Rules
- Fly fishing is only by boat, float tube, bank or casting platform between dawn and dusk, with no more than one rod in the water at any point in time.
- Barbless or de-barbed hooks are to be used at all times.
- Strictly NO trolling.
- To allow newly stocked fish to healthily acclimatise, lake areas A & H are not to be fished for 5 days following stocking. Notices will be posted for these fallow periods.
- Members must fully complete the fishing logbook in the lodge before and after fishing. Catch returns must be properly completed, together with any other data that helps fellow members and the management of the fishery.
- Two fish may be taken per rod day (please also see Fish Retention Rules below)
- Members must hold a current EA trout fishing license.
- Please handle fish with care. Allow fish some recovery time in your net before removal from the lake and minimise time out of water. Handle with wet hands and where possible take account of the Keep Fish Wet Principles.
Fish Retention Rules
The club actively operates a responsible lake fish density management policy influenced by our fishery and other scientific data relating to disease, predation, parasitic infection, adverse water & environmental conditions as well as factors which affect fish morbidity.
Notices to support this policy will be emailed to members periodically and posted in the lodge. However, generic fish retention rules are listed below and though some members may be reluctant to take fish, we stress that this is necessary to minimise disease.
- All Brown Trout MUST be safely returned to the lake*.
- Rainbow or Blue trout over 3lb MUST be safely returned to the lake*.
- In the months April to September inclusive, your first fish caught MUST be retained and not returned to the lake dead, or alive.
- In the months October to March inclusive, all fish may be returned alive if members and their guests do not wish to retain their day bag limit.
- Periodically, the Club may implement a temporary ‘must kill’ policy to help minimise disease and infection. If implemented, all caught fish – or as designated in the temporary rules – MUST be retained and not returned to the lake dead or alive.
- No gutting of fish to take place at the fishery.
- * Except if a ‘must kill’ policy is implemented.
Boat Rules
- Boat numbers must be booked in and out in the logbook and the names of all people in your boat must be entered.
- You are requested to ensure your boat is clean after use. Please use the anchor bucket, do not damage boats by dragging anchors over the side or leave mud, weed, line or litter after re-mooring your boat.
- Argulus pipe infrastructure wooden and steel posts must not be used as anchoring or mooring points and should be given a wide berth to avoid collision.
Guest Rules
- For insurance reasons, members must email their guest’s name and date of fishing to mail@newplattfisheries.crmail.co.uk in advance of attendance.
- Members may bring an adult guest free of charge 4 times a year. Guests under 18 (minors) are allowed unlimited visits but must be accompanied by an adult member.
- Members must accompany their guests at all times. For safety reasons, minors may only fish from boat or bank only.
- Guests, regardless of age, must be in possession of a valid EA trout Rod Licence in line with EA licencing rules (13-16 issued free of charge, 16+ chargeable).
- The joint bag limit is 4 fish (please also see fish retention rules above).
- Guest names must always be entered in the logbook.
- Additional guest days can be purchased at £25 per day.
