New Platt Fisheries
For over thirty years, members of New Platt Fisheries have enjoyed fly fishing at one of the most tranquil and picturesque trout lakes in Cheshire. Located in quiet rural countryside close to the village of Goostrey, the fishery is set in secluded woodland and surrounded with an abundance of plant and bird-life.
Managed by members for the benefit of members, we continually strive to improve the quality of fishing, our club facilities together with the fishing environment and surroundings, for the exclusive enjoyment of members and their guests.
We pride ourselves on being a responsible fishery, in which biological and scientific data collected on a weekly basis helps determine how we maintain the highest possible water quality and fish welfare standards.
New Platt Fly Fishing Lake
Our trout fishery was formed in the 1980s when the quarrying workings were flooded.
Covering 37 acres with two islands the lake has matured over the years to provide a secluded and intimate fishery surrounded by deciduous woodland.
Fishing options are numerous. From boat is the most popular, but bank and casting platforms offer a variety to suit all preferences.
The lake is fed through the water table and a small stream on the East bank. There is a single sluice controlled outflow on the west bank. The water level varies 2 to 3ft feet throughout the year, with the deepest water in the West and South at depths to 12 feet and the shallowest area in the North East where depth can be as low as 3-4 feet in summer conditions. Fish are caught in all areas.
The lake bottom is mainly exposed sand, clay and sediment with small features, such as ridges and hollows remaining from the old quarry which concentrate fish.
