Railway Pond

Brief description of fishery:

Possibly more renowned for its weed rather than its fish for many years. Railway pond has had big issues with Red Azolea, Hornwort and Duck Weed

This roadside pond has produced some good bags of fish for those anglers willing to try it in years where it has had the odd hole to fish or a year of slightly less vigorous weed growth or for those who had time to persevere with a weed rake.

Small Tench, Crucian Carp, Goldfish and Rudd keep most anglers busy. It was first thought that we were lucky enough to have to have a water with only true Crucian Carp but we have since noticed that some fish are showing signs of having interbred with illegally introduced Goldfish.

The last couple of years have seen extensive work including tree removal, new swims and bank excavation taking place (many thanks to all of those that have helped with this, as a lot of work was involved)

This is with many thanks to the EA helping the club to get a grant as an “Urban Fishery Redevelopment”

Things are not done yet, we still have a plan to dig out and dredge the water, as although the look of the water has drastically improved, actually fishing it can still be a challenge.

We are looking forward to what this water is capable of producing in the future. Rest assured, our aim is to make this happen.
