Dolgellau Angling Association

Dolgellau Angling Association has 13 miles of prime Sea Trout and Salmon fishing on the rivers Mawddach and Wnion in the southern Snowdonia National Park area in Wales. In addition we can boast a beautiful 22 Ha Welsh upland lake fishery with great access and a disabled platform. Llyn Cynwch is regularly stocked with varieties of rainbow and brown trout and can be fished with either bait or fly.

Our membership runs from 1st March to 30th November and we welcome new & returning members of any age.

Llyn Cynwch

Brief description of fishery:

LLyn Cynwch is 22 Ha Welsh upland lake fishery with great access and a disabled platform. Llyn Cynwch is regularly stocked with varieties of rainbow and brown trout and can be fished with either bait or fly. The lake can boast a catch return of a 10lb brown trout in the 2023 season.

The lake also holds Pike to over 20lb, which can be fished for during October & November only.

River Wnion

Brief description of fishery:

The Wnion is the largest tributary of the Mawddach and extends upstream from the lower tidal Junction Pool through the town of Dolgellau to a narrow boulder strewn upland spate fishery. Sea trout are the main quarry although a number of Salmon run the river and there is always the indigenous brown trout on offer if you are careful enough.

The river Wnion flows through the town of Dolgellau and joins the river Mawddach at the tidal point of the Junction pool

River Mawddach

Brief description of fishery:

The Mawddach is a fantastic river offering upland spate fishing to slow tidal pools. The Mawddach holds a good head of both Salmon & Sea trout throughout its length. Fly fishing, spinning, shrimp and worm are all methods and can prove productive depending on the conditions. Anglers must adhere to the local Salmon & Sea trout bylaws & check the government website for guidance.

Membership & Tickets

Membership

The Annual Subscription will be due on the 1st of January of each year and last for one calendar year, or in the event of a member joining part way through the year, the remainder of the calendar year. Members will not be able to fish until they have renewed their membership.

Members who do not renew their subscriptions between January 1st and March 1st of the New Year will be deemed to have relinquished their membership and must therefore re-apply.

Junior members are those who hold a junior E.A rod licence on the date of application.

Permits also available during opening hours from Mile End Garage, Dolgellau, LL40 2AB.

There are three membership categories:

  • Full Local season member: Adults over 18 & residing permanently within a 12 mile radius of Dolgellau.
  • Visitors season member: Adults aged 18 and over on 1st January
  • Junior season member: Young persons up to the age of 17 on 1st January.

Membership shall be at the discretion of the Committee and all members must be in possession of a current Environment Agency Rod Licence, when fishing club waters.

Day Tickets

Day Permits cost £25. This covers 13 miles of river which has good runs of sea trout & Salmon and it also covers the Lake, Llyn Cynwch which is regularly stocked with varieties of rainbow & brown trout. Fish the lake during the day & sea trout in the evenings!!

Night fishing for sea trout, the day permit covers the evening till dawn. i.e Monday till Tuesday dawn.
